Dayrift is built so that your events stay yours. Nothing leaves your device except to your own private iCloud, which Dayrift syncs to automatically when you're signed in, and we don't collect any data about you at all.

The short version

Dayrift doesn't have a backend. There's no Dayrift server, no account to sign up for, and no analytics SDK watching you. Your events are stored on your iPhone or iPad using Apple's standard on-device database (SwiftData). If you're signed into iCloud, those events are mirrored into your private iCloud — the same iCloud that holds your Photos, Notes, and Messages backups. We can't see anything you save.

In one sentence: the only personal data Dayrift "has" is the data sitting on your iPhone or iPad right now.

What we collect

We collect nothing. Dayrift does not send any data about you, your device, or how you use the app to any server we control. On the App Store, Dayrift's privacy label reads Data Not Collected.

The information you create inside the app — event names, dates, emoji, notes, photos you pick from your library, images you generate — is stored locally on your device. A photo you pick is saved cropped to the square you frame, and like the rest of your events it syncs to your private iCloud when you're signed in. We have no access to it.

Where your data lives

Dayrift uses Apple's SwiftData framework to store your events in a private app-group container on your device. This is the same kind of on-device storage Apple's own apps use.

  • If you're signed into iCloud, your events also sync to your private iCloud automatically; you can turn that off in iOS Settings → your name → iCloud.
  • You can delete every event at any time from Settings → Clear All Events.
  • Uninstalling the app removes the local copy of your data.

iCloud sync

If you are signed into iCloud on your device, Dayrift uses Apple's CloudKit to mirror your events into your private iCloud database. This is the same mechanism Apple's first-party apps (Reminders, Notes, Photos) use.

What this means in practice:

  • Your data goes only to your iCloud — not to a Dayrift server.
  • Apple's privacy practices apply to anything stored there. See apple.com/legal/privacy.
  • You can disable iCloud sync at any time in iOS Settings → your Apple ID → iCloud → Dayrift.
  • We — the makers of Dayrift — have no access to your private iCloud database. Only you can read it, through your Apple Account.

Where else your events appear

None of these is collection — each stays on your device or in your own iCloud — but each is a place your event text lives:

  • Spotlight and Siri. Event names and notes are indexed on your device so you can search for them and ask Siri about them; on iOS 27 they are also in Siri's on-device index.
  • Widgets. Widgets show event names, including on the Lock Screen.
  • Reminders. Reminders are scheduled on your device by iOS, with the event's name in them.
  • iCloud key-value storage. A small record kept in your iCloud of events you deleted or cleared (with a random identifier for the device that cleared them) and of duplicate holidays Dayrift merged, so your other devices don't bring them back.
  • CSV export. A file you choose to make and save, the one copy that leaves the app at your hand.

Analytics & tracking

Dayrift contains no analytics SDK. There is no Mixpanel, no Amplitude, no Google Analytics, no Firebase. The app does not phone home about which buttons you press, how often you open it, or what you've named your events.

The app does not use any advertising identifiers (IDFA) and does not implement App Tracking Transparency prompts because it has nothing to track.

If you choose to share crash reports or app analytics with developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple collects and sends those under its own privacy policy — Dayrift adds nothing to them.

This website sets no cookies and loads nothing from other sites. Like any website, its host may keep ordinary server logs of requests.

Third parties

The only third party Dayrift relies on is Apple — specifically, Apple's CloudKit service if you have iCloud enabled on your device. If you choose to generate an AI image for an event, Apple's Image Playground creates it on your device where possible; for larger models Apple may process the event name you typed through its Private Cloud Compute service solely to render that image — it is not stored, per Apple's Private Cloud Compute design. The event name is the only text Dayrift passes to Image Playground. Apple's Image Playground screen may also offer styles made by another company, such as ChatGPT; if you pick one of those, Apple sends the event name to that company to make the picture, under that company's privacy policy. That choice is yours, in Apple's screen. Dayrift itself does not share, sell, or transmit your data to anyone else.

Purchases

Dayrift is free, with one optional one-time purchase, Dayrift Plus. The purchase is made and processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. Dayrift never sees your payment details; the app only asks Apple whether Plus is unlocked on your Apple Account.

Your privacy rights

Dayrift is published by Crimson IO LLC, a company based in Georgia, USA. Depending on where you live, privacy laws may give you rights over your personal information, such as asking for a copy, correcting it or deleting it. Your events stay on your devices and in your own iCloud, so you control them directly in the app. The only personal information we hold is what you send us by email.

Emails you send us are stored with our email provider and may be held outside your country. We keep them only as long as we need them to help you. To use your rights, or to make a complaint, email Dayrift@crimson-io.com. You can also contact the privacy regulator where you live.

Children's privacy

Dayrift is not directed at children under 13. Because we don't collect any data, we cannot knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. If you have concerns, please contact us.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes when the update ships.
